Goalpost
Film is a worldwide sales, financing and marketing company which
executive produces and enables independent feature films. The two
executive directors, Tristan Whalley and Nicki Parfitt joined forces in
2006, having worked together since 1999 on films such as Nigel
Cole’s SAVING GRACE and Paul Greengrass’ BLOODY SUNDAY. In
2008 the company joined forces with Goalpost Pictures, one of
Australia's leading production companies.
Titles being presented in Cannes this year include:
- The majestic LITTLE SISTER,
written and directed by Richard Bowen, based on the earliest telling of
the Cinderella story, from ancient China. The film has an all-Chinese
cast and introduces Xiao Min in the title role of Mei Mei.
- Musical drama THE SAPPHIRES,
directed by Wayne Blair and produced by Rosemary Blight and Kylie du
Fresne. In 1968 four young Aboriginal sisters from a remote mission are
flown to Vietnam to sing soul music for the American troops. A
triumphant celebration of youthful emotion, family and music.
- COME BACK HOME written by
Frank Cottrell Boyce, directed by Jules Williamson and produced by
Andrea Cornwell. In war torn Uganda, Moses was a child soldier and is
now the newest recruit to a street-gang of 'Lost Boys'. When a local
radio station starts broadcasting appeals for child soldiers to come
home, Moses' new found happiness is threatened.
- The road movie DRAFTIN’
directed by Jim Lounsbury and produced by Rosemary Blight. When two
kids from the same small town are drafted to fight in Vietnam, they
steal a Holden Kingswood and run into the desert to escape fighting a
war they were never meant to fight.
Goalpost Film also represents:
- JEAN CHARLES, directed by
Henrique Goldman, produced by Carlos Nader, Goldman and Luke Schiller,
and stars Selton Mello as Jean Charles de Menezes - the Brazilian so
tragically shot by the British police in 2005 at the height of the
London terrorist alerts. Rebecca O'Brien and Stephen Frears are
Executive Producers. JEAN CHARLES is a UK/Brazilian co-production with
funding from UK Film Council and the Imagem Group in Brazil. The film
was released in Brazil in June 2009 and had it's international premiere
at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
- THE ESCAPIST, directed by
Rupert Wyatt, produced by Alan Moloney and Adrian Sturges, premiered at
the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Starring Brian Cox, Joseph Fiennes and
Seu Jorge, the film was theatrically released by IFC in North America
in April 2009.
- The acclaimed feature documentary THREE MILES NORTH OF MOLKOM,
directed by Robert Cannan and Corinna Villari-McFarlane, which had its
first release in September 2009 through Metrodome in the United Kingdom.
- CLOSED FOR WINTER, directed
by James Bogle and starring Natalie Imbruglia, (produced by Goalpost's
sister company in Australia, Goalpost Pictures), had its World Premiere
at the Adelaide Film Festival and was released throughout Australia in
April 2009.
- CLUBLAND, directed by Cherie
Nowlan, produced by Rosemary Blight and starring Brenda Blethyn,
premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, securing substantial
sales to Warner Bros and other major distributors internationally.
- Goalpost Film has also taken on the international sales and licensing rights for Kevin Costner and Jim Wilson's classic DANCES WITH WOLVES, which won seven Oscars including Best Film at the 1990 Academy Awards, WHIRLYGIRL starring Monet Mazur, and HEAD ABOVE WATER directed by Jim Wilson and starring Cameron Diaz.
